Dr. Fernando Bauer is an internationally respected gynecologist and obstetrician who specializes in overseeing healthy pregnancies and detecting and treating all diseases related to women’s reproductive organs and health, particularly urinary incontinence, infertility, advanced gynecological surgery, and 5D ultrasound.
Dr. Bauer has been an invited guest speaker and instructor at various symposia and conventions in the U.S. and Europe, discussing topics such as high-risk pregnancy, cervical cancer, endometriosis, urinary incontinence, and the latest developments in pharmaceutical medications from Wyeth, Merck, and Novartis, for example. He is an officially recognized doctor and member of the United Nations, UNICEF, and World Health Organization – WHO.
In Guatemala, Dr. Bauer works together with Dr. Estuardo Cifuentes at the Edificio Sixtino Medical building in the prestigious “Medical Corridor” area of downtown Guatemala City. They provide the finest care for local residents, visiting dignitaries, and women who expect first-class personal attention to their health concerns and family planning.
When cancer is expected to affect one out of six people during their lifetime, it is imperative that women can trust their doctor, to be certain that they do not take any chances in developing gynecological lesions or tumors.
Dr. Bauer is an expert in performing LLETZ, or large-loop excision of the transformation zone, a procedure to remove cervical tissue for examination and to treat some precancerous changes of the cervix. A thin wire loop heated by an electrical current is used like a scalpel to remove the abnormal tissue from the cervix area. The goal is to remove all visible abnormal cells. It is performed in the clinic, with local anesthetic, and takes about ten minutes. Sometimes it is done at the same time as a colposcopy and biopsy. Once the tissue sample has been taken, it will be sent to a laboratory for examination under a microscope.
Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) uses a wire loop heated by electric current to remove cells and tissue in a woman’s lower genital tract. It is used as part of the diagnosis and treatment for abnormal or cancerous conditions in the cervix and vagina. It is generally regarded as an easy and cost-effective method to treat pre-invasive cervical lesions.
Fertilization methods for women who have difficulty conceiving have become much more successful and economical in the last few years. Like the old and reliable IVF method, GIFT or gamete intrafallopian transfer involves introducing the egg and sperm. In the modern transfer method, the process is quicker and fertilization happens naturally after Dr. Bauer places the eggs and sperm directly inside one of your fallopian tubes.
Obstetricians have been using ultrasound to monitor fetal development for over fifty years. Dr. Bauer has specially trained in the use of the latest generation of U/S technology: Nuchal Translucency, a non-invasive screening to detect chromosomal abnormalities. Technological developments such as real-time imaging, color and power Doppler, transvaginal sonography, and 4/5-D imaging are available in the best gynecological centers in the world, including Dr. Bauer’s. This new technology enhances the doctor’s ability to investigate and manage fetal growth and well-being, as well as to detect suspicious lesions and fibroid in the mother’s reproductive tract.
The stem cells in cord blood can offer life-saving solutions to children and adults who develop degenerative diseases. Dr. Bauer encourages new mothers to cryogenically preserve and safeguard those cells with the New England Cord Blood Bank, one of the oldest and most trusted in America.
For young couples hoping to start a family or older women in need of special attention, and all women concerned for long-term health and well-being, Dr. Fernando Bauer is the gynecologist they can trust at all stages of life. He resolves concerns and determines solutions with cutting-edge technology, extensive experience, and a gentle hand, to guide your decisions like a caring friend.
